Samaritan’s Purse Canada has been asked by the Regional District of Central Okangan (RDCO) to assist residents that have been affected by the White Rock Lake wildfire. They have moved a convoy of vehicles, staff, and equipment—including a specially equipped Disaster Relief Unit—to the Vernon Alliance campus to help homeowners recover.
VAC is proud to partner with Samaritan's Purse (SP) to be ground zero for their response team, volunteer training* and support. The SP Relief team will work with VAC and our community, to come alongside homeowners and offer physical and spiritual aid in Jesus’ Name. Besides sifting for anything that survived the fires, our volunteers also visit undamaged homes that have long been without electricity in order to remove fridges and freezers full of dangerous rotting food.
Who are these volunteers? YOU!
Your support can make a difference for families who have lost almost everything. If you've been wondering: "How can I help?"....this is a very real and practical way!
Visit Samaritan's Purse Canada to sign-up for volunteer training, or to find out more about how you can practically support those affected by BC Wildfires. We are so humbled and proud to partner with SP to serve our community in this way.
Any Vernon area homeowners needing help should call 1-866-628-6565.
**Disaster Relief for fire is the most technical response that the Samaritan's Purse team has, and so, strict safety measure must be followed. This means the very first day a volunteers joins the team, they are required to do an extensive safety training, as well as all Volunteers will need to be properly fitted with a ½ mask respirator and all required PPE gear, which SP will provide every day for all volunteers. This training is only done one time, and after that volunteers can join the team whenever they have opportunity to do so!
