Common Threads Support Assistant

 JOB FOCUS

Vernon Alliance Church is looking for a part-time, flexible 10 hour per week Support Assistant for the Common Threads Ministry.  Applicants will be a person of integrity with a servant heart possessing strong administrative skills, a valid driver’s license with use of a vehicle.  Experience with non-profits and vulnerable populations an asset. 

Qualities and Qualifications:

  • Willingness to lend a hand with many different tasks
  • Strong administrative skills
  • Organized with attention to detail and ability to prioritize among many important tasks
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Effective in their communications
  • Friendly with a confident telephone manner
  • Knowledge of the working poor and vulnerable populations
  • Ability to lift at least 10 kg
  • Must have a driver’s license and a vehicle to support work tasks as requested.

Working Relationships

Reports to and supports the Common Threads Coordinator 

Position Status

  • Part-time approximately 10 hours per week, as directed by the Common Threads Coordinator
  • Once a month staff meeting – 12hrs those weeks

4 Opportunities

Vernon Alliance Church is looking for students to fill 4 job opportunities this summer – contingent upon funding.

Support Worker, Common Threads Ministry – 1 position
This position will assist with the training and scheduling of volunteers that prepare food to feed guests of the Common Threads Ministry, sort donated clothing and support the individual needs of the vulnerable populations that use this program. Duties will include but not be limited to organizing the pick up of various food donations, preparing food items, sorting clothes and providing community resource information to guest. Experience working with vulnerable populations is an asset.

Building Custodian – 1 position
This position will assist with cleaning, sanitization, minor repairs, scheduling of outside repairs and contractors, scheduling of custodial staff, and reviewing custodial processes for efficiency and maintenance of standards. Duties will be delegated by the Facility Manager to support operations and ministries. WHMIS and First Aid experience is an asset.

Program Planner for Children, Youth and Young Adults Ministries – 2 positions
This position will report to the Youth and Children’s Ministry Pastors. Duties will include, but not be limited to preparing, planning, and executing special events and programming throughout the summer which will support new programming as well as existing weekend services. Experience working with children, youth and young adults is desired.

Qualifications for all positions include teamwork, good communication skills, leadership skills, a driver’s license and use of a vehicle. In addition, all applicants must be eligible to work under the Government of Canada Guidelines for the Canada Summer Jobs grant and be between 15 and 30 years of age.  For eligibility requirements please read: csj-2023-applicant-guide.pdf (canada.ca). These positions are contingent upon Vernon Alliance successful application for funding through the Canada Summer Jobs. Position wages and duration of employment will be determined by the Government of Canada.
