Figuring out who Jesus is and what He has done for you as evidence of God’s love for you is life transformative. Participating with a group of like-minded believers supports the journey of faith that we all need. Becoming a member of VAC raises the level of ownership and commitment and can be a very important step in your journey of faith. It affirms where you belong, what you believe, and who you will become. It is a step of faith, of discipleship, and of community.
Yes. This new process will clarify & simplify the assignment of the nominating committee. The first time through will be a bit tricky as we will be updating long time members with what we already ask of new members in terms of a covenant declaration.
The annual membership affirmation will happen early in each new calendar year. It provides the opportunity for every member of Vernon Alliance Church to personally review their commitment to the church and choose to affirm that commitment, or choose to remove themselves from membership, and/or to request a conversation with board members to settle any discrepancy about their status. Please note that each individual member must respond separately, not as couples.
At the beginning of April, each member will receive an email with:
· a link to the membership affirmation form
· a copy of the current membership covenant
· a copy of the Local Church Constitution, including the Statement of Faith of The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada, and the Vernon Alliance Church Bylaws
We recognize there is a significant amount of reading, but our Canadian Pacific District requests that each member read the documents and respond accordingly.
If you have questions or need help with the process, please contact the church. We’d love to help. We would like to have responses within a month, after which the board will reach out to clarify.
If you are not a member, but would like to become one, please fill out a Connection Card and you will be contacted and walked through the process. We'd love to help you get started!
We want to make it easy for you to participate in the life of the church here at Vernon Alliance.
Membership is not required to be involved in many areas and to grow in & be supported in your faith.
The concept of membership reflects the organic nature of participants as “members” of Christ’s body, which is the church. While all believers are part of the body of Christ regardless of whether they are members of a local church or not, identifying ourselves with a specific local body says, “I’m not alone in this. I am a part of you and you are a part of me.” There is accountability and strength in that. We are not a group of dismembered body parts, but rather a body knit together as God’s agent, at work to bring about his Kingdom in the world.
Formal membership is valuable to the leaders of the church as they seek to fulfill the God-given call to shepherd his people. It is important to identify those who are “in” Vernon Alliance Church and who can be counted on to participate in and sustain its ministries.
Most importantly, membership benefits you, the individual. In a culture where commitment is not often valued, membership is an important step that moves each of us out of the vague clouds of good intentions into the clear light of committed participation. It presents a challenge for you to “stand up and be counted,” to have your voice and your vote count in matters of church direction, budget, in the affirmation of elders as well as to participate in leadership roles here.
